What I Carried into Bloom is a twenty-year curated collection of autobiographical poetry tracing one woman’s passage through immigration, scarcity, family, love, motherhood, heartbreak, and healing.
She writes from the places where identity is tested and remade—between countries, generations, the expectations placed upon women, and the lives they choose for themselves.
These poems move through first love and heartbreak, domestic violence and family fracture, assimilation and belonging, single motherhood, friendship, work, desire, and the difficult act of setting boundaries without surrendering tenderness.
Some were written by the young woman living through the experience. Others were written years later, from a distance that allowed her to understand what her younger self could not yet name.
Featuring poems by her daughter, Alexa Bruckback, the collection also makes room for the next generation to speak in her own voice.
Together, they form a record of what was carried, what was relinquished, and what survived long enough to bloom.
What I Carried into Bloom is not a story of remaining unbroken.
It is a story of becoming whole on one’s own terms.
